Troubleshooting

VPN does not change the displayed IP address

If the public address remains the same, traffic may not travel through the expected tunnel or use a different network stack.

Check the actual condition of the tunnel

An open application does not always mean that the tunnel is connected. Confirm the selected server and connection status, and then reload the page without reusing an old result displayed.

Split tunneling and exclusions

Some VPNs exclude a browser, app, or destinations. In this case, the affected traffic goes directly through the usual connection. Review split tunnel rules and enforced job profiles.

IPv4, IPv6, and routing leaks

A tunnel can carry IPv4 but let IPv6 use the normal route, or the other way around. Compare the protocol displayed before and after connection. A properly configured VPN should clearly define how the two available stacks are handled.

Proxy, DNS, and VPN

Changing DNS only does not change the source address seen by a site. A proxy configured in a single application also does not protect the rest of the system. So identify the technology and its scope precisely.

Frequently asked questions

Does changing DNS hide my IP?

No. DNS resolves names; It does not replace the source address of your connection to the Site.

Why does only a browser keep my old IP?

It can be excluded from the tunnel or use a different proxy configuration, profile, or network stack.
