Practical guide

Fixed or dynamic IP

A dynamic IP can change; a fixed IP remains allocated on a long-term basis according to the operator's offer.

Why it is changing

On some offers, the operator assigns an address for a limited time. A reconnection, a box restart or maintenance can result in a new address. On other offers, the address remains stable for a very long time.

When to choose a fixed IP

A fixed IP facilitates remote access, some personal VPNs, video surveillance, or hosting services. For home use, dynamic DNS can sometimes be enough without a paid option.

What it doesn't change

A fixed IP is not automatically dangerous, and a dynamic IP does not anonymize. Logged in accounts, cookies, browser fingerprinting, and service logs remain separate signals.

Check your case

Write down your public IP today, then compare after a reconnection or the next day. If it remains the same over time, it can be fixed or simply reallocated in a stable way by the operator.

Frequently asked questions

Can I request a fixed IP?

Often yes, depending on the operator and the offer. This is sometimes included for professional offers.

Is changing IP enough to be anonymous?

No. The IP address is just one signal among many.
